Originally built as The Institute of the Blessed Virgin in 1905 and expanded in 1927, this William P. Doerr building became the Loretto Academy in the early 1970's. It has sat vacant since Loretto Academy stopped using it in the mid-2000s and has faced deferred maintenance ever since. An auction was held on October 28th, 2019 and the property offically sold on January 15, 2020. Plans for the building or site have not been revealed as of July 2020.

I worked there as an orderly in 1977 while attending grad school. The owner (Dr. Maurice Mazel) wife Harriet walked all the patient floors every day to talk with patients. If she found a patient's call light not answered quickly enough, she fired the staff person. The place was run like a Navy ship, and I learned a lot about being prompt, precise & correct from my time there.
