Its actually 100 years old now. I'm an 8th grader at Portage Park and wow, time flies. I have had some amazing years here and if anyone reading this is considering Portage for their kids school, I would say go for it!
  • South Delano Court, Snerd (guest) wrote 8 years ago:
Named after Franklin Delano Roosevelt's middle name, even though Roosevelt Road is named after Theodore Roosevelt. I guess they couldn't bring themselves to call it South Teddy Court.

THE CALUMET YARD . . . 103rd and Doty . . . what fond memories! My brother and I grew up in Roseland (10416 S. Eberhart), and we both spent many happy hours watching trains (and even riding trains) at this location. "Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end". But, sadly, they did. Too bad.
  • Eggers Grove (Forest Preserve), Edward (guest) wrote 8 years ago:
Eggers Grove is a gorgeous site nestled in a decidedly less so part of town. The community of people that gather there every month to do all kinds work to improve the preserve are some of the nicest and most committed people you'll ever meet. I definitely recommend checking this place out especially in the spring when the birds and flowers are in full color.
  • Mehdavia Islamic Center of Chicago (MICC), abu azmath (guest) wrote 8 years ago:
This Non-Profit Organisation which was originally conceived to support Mahdavis living in Chicago and other cities in US has now become Very Profitable Business serving only the President and Board Members along with their Families. Most members in executive committee or holding titles or positions in MICC are son-in-laws, sons, nieces and nephews of these Board Members. These members do not let others attend the meetings and even if you accidentally attend the meeting they wont share any information. The meetings are mostly secretly held. Not only this weekend parties are held at MICC location , food is cooked and served if you accidentally happen to be at location you are made to feel unwelcome and hostility is displayed. There were rumors in our community that the board members sold Mahdavia Conference tickets and invitation to people in India and Dubai UAE and they obtained USA visit visas with fictitious /fake documents . Even though the conference was held for 3 days in April 2015 its almost December now but people are still coming on Visa to attend the conference... mahdaviaislamiccenterfraud.wordpress.com

Planned to be removed by 2017, as VHF Omni Ranges (VOR) are becoming increasingly obsolete, and the site will be occupied by eventual construction of Runway 9C-27C.
  • Remnant of runway 14L-32R, DaveKilo wrote 9 years ago:
With the opening of new Runway 10R-28L in October 2015, historic Runway 14L-32R, once the airport's second most important runway, is now permanently closed, after 72 years of stalwart service.
  • Runway 4L-22R, DaveKilo wrote 9 years ago:
With the opening of three new parallel east-west runways in 2008, 2013 and 2015, Runway 4L-22R is now only rarely used, but it is very useful during strong northerly or southerly winds.

This place is awful! The places were thrown together fast and cheap so EVERYTHING is falling apart. The hoa doesn't fix anything they say they will, they only walk the grounds to fine people. They also tell you 1 thing to keep you quiet, then change the rules to suit them and fine you in the process. Oh and there's a crazy lady who isn't even on the board since she was kicked out, but she still acts like she is. She runs around getting in everyones business, taking pictures to send to the hoa but acting like she's your buddy.. No grill cover while your grill is cooling? Silver dollar sized tear in that cover? $150. Left your bike outside while you made lunch? $150. Have a chair on the rooftop deck membrane? $150. Automatically debited from your bank. Oh, yeah. I'm sure the real estate agent showing you the house didn't mention all the side units are section 8, bikes are stolen from the garage, cars are broken in to, there's shootings right outside the gate, brawls and muggings inside the gate since anyone can get in even though the locks make you think it's secured. Im sure none of that was brought up. You don't want to live here. Overpriced, over rated, unsafe, and unfair association.
