Born and raised in Chicago. Very nice city to live, best to raise kids in outskirt suburbs though. Some areas in Chicago are pretty bad just like any other big city. Overall, Chicago is a great place to live, cold one too.

This building was not designed by Mies, in fact it was designed by Myron Goldsmith. One of five campus buildings designed by Myron Goldsmith, keating Sports Center strays from Mies' formula. It is a clear-span structure with girders supporting the roof, a column free main floor, and a curtain wall of multi-colored glass.

This is NOT the Haymarket Riot Monument. The Riot Monument was erected nearby in 1889, but later moved several times due to highway construction, targetted vandalism/destruction, and then the City's decision to move it first to Chicago's police academy and then to Chicago police headquarters.
This is the Haymarket Memorial (2004), a recent addition reclaiming the site.

Hospital has been closed since 2008. City of Chicago purchased the campus for $91 Million and planned to use the site as the athletes village in their failed bid for the Olympic Games. Though demolition has already begun on some buildings, there is a movement to place some buildings designed by Walter Gropius (Bauhaus) on the National Register of Historic Places.
