This is the old Chicago Life Saving Station. It is home not only to the Coast Guard during the summer (a detachment from the USCG Calumet Base) but the Chicago Fire Department now, housing their new fireboat, Engine 2 (The Christopher Wheatley), the old fireboat Engine 58 (The Victor Schlaeger) and the summer home for 6-8-8, a small fireboat. http://www.chicagoareafire.com/Div_9_D1_B1_2.html

  • ORD Terminal 5-International, SongCloud wrote 14 years ago:
Terminal 4 was a temporary terminal in the main parking garage (Near the Hilton). It was designated Terminal 4 while Terminal 5 was being built. International passengers used to check into Terminal 4 and were then taken by bus to their planes which were parked at hard stands where the current Terminal 5 now stands. Since Terminal 5 went into operation, Terminal 4 was converted back to the lower levels of the parking garage and the Terminal 4 designation was discarded. Reports state that the Terminal 4 designation may be re-used for a future terminal if more terminals are built on the west side of the airfield once the expansion plans are completed and if passenger demand calls for it.
